About Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral and maxillofacial surgery is a dental specialty that bridges the connection between dentistry and medicine. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons complete an additional 4-6 years of hospital-based residency training beyond the four years of general dental training. As part of their specialty training, they study such diverse areas as medicine, anesthesia, head and neck surgery, pathology, trauma and radiology.

Oral and maxillofacial surgery is expanding the scope of the specialty, developing new techniques and modifying previously established procedures. Our practice is committed to staying abreast of these changes and working to be on the forefront of exciting advancements in our specialty. We spend a significant amount of time learning the latest in treatment through continuing education courses and our continuing dedication to resident training.

Working With Your Family Dentist and Physician

Our office serves as an extension of your family dentist's and physician's office to provide specialized care. We have made a commitment to work with your doctor to provide you with the highest quality care. Because we recognize the importance of good communication between doctors, we make every effort to insure that your doctor is informed of your treatment at all times.

Your Initial Consultation

In order to provide you with the highest quality of care, Dr. Radakovich will meet with you for an initial consultation and will explain the surgical procedure to you in detail during this visit. Understanding treatment makes most patients more relaxed. Dr. Radakovich has had many years of clinical and surgical experience and can handle the most delicate surgical procedures with ease and efficiency.

Dr. Radakovich has also had extensive anesthesia training which enables him to sedate patients when necessary to insure comfort. Your comfort is a top priority, so we offer a relaxed and comfortable environment and provide anesthesia when necessary. Dr. Radakovich offers a variety of anesthetic techniques including local anesthesia, nitrous oxide, intravenous sedation and general anesthesia.

We want you to understand and feel comfortable with the anesthetic technique that you have chosen for your surgery. Our office is fully equipped with the most advanced technology. Using the most advanced technologies allows us to better server our patients.

Patient Protection

We are committed to providing a safe environment. Sterilization is a high priority in our office, and we adhere to the highest standards of infection control in accordance with the CDC and OSHA guidelines. Our treatment rooms are equipped with the most current technology to eliminate any risks. All of our equipment is sterilized prior to treating each patient and is carefully monitored for 100% effectiveness. We will do everything possible to provide you with the highest quality of care while maximizing your protection.

Each of our instruments and hand pieces undergo thorough sterilization, as well as a process called "autoclaving" which uses heat and pressure. For quality assurance purposes, our autoclave device is frequently monitored to verify proper sterilization.

We are committed to providing you with the highest quality of care, and conforming to the highest standards of sterilization is just part of our commitment to serving you. If you are interested, we will be happy to answer any questions that you may have and give you a tour of our facility.

Fees and Payment

Several factors determine our fee, including the severity of the problem, expected length of treatment and use of our expertise, training, and professional judgment required to correct the existing problem. Oral and maxillofacial surgery fees are determined on an individual basis.

Our financial coordinator will be happy to discuss payment plan options with you. For your convenience, we accept Visa, MasterCard, and other credit card services.

Insurance

We will be happy to help in any way we can in filing your insurance claims and handling insurance questions from our office on your behalf. Our insurance experts will work with you to attain the maximum benefits to which you are entitled. We work closely with many dental organizations.

Appointments

Regular office hours are daily Monday through Friday. Our appointment coordinator will be happy to provide directions and other office information to make scheduling convenient.

If an emergency should occur after hours or on the weekends, Dr. Radakovich will be notified and will return your call as soon as possible. If Dr. Radakovich is away, another doctor will be available to take your call. Emergency patients will be seen immediately during regular office hours.

• Surgical placement of dental implants to replace single or multiple missing teeth.
• Reconstruction of the jaws with bone grafting and/or guided tissue regeneration to increase height and width to allow implant placement

About Our Doctor

Dr. Joseph Radakovich has practiced oral and maxillofacial surgery since 1990. His career in private practice has been distinguished by his professional appointments, his leadership and commitment to local and national dental organizations, and by his role as an educator.

After graduating from dental school at Oregon Health Sciences University and his internship year at Emory University in Atlanta, Dr. Radakovich went on to complete his residency program in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.

Dr. Radakovich's leadership and commitment to dentistry is evident in his active involvement as an educator. His academic appointments include that of guest lecturer at OHSU School of Dentistry, and he regularly speaks on various topics for the dental society and general dentists in his area. Dr. Radakovich has also been examiner for the specialty examination.

In a career distinguished by various honors and certifications, Dr. Radakovich is certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and was recently chosen as a volunteer dentist of the year for providing free care for patients with disabilities.

A native of the Northwest, Dr. Radakovich is married with two children and enjoys fly fishing, reading, and activities with his family.
